It only takes a small amount of movement for the bolts to loosen and allow the flexplate to oscillate against the crankshaft causing costly and catastrophic damage to both parts. This friction increase stops your flexplate from slipping, allowing it to handle the much higher torque loads expected from a diesel engine.
